Dr. Donald E. Craven, Highly Respected Professor and Physician, Teaches at Tufts University in Wellesley, MA

Get to know this highly regarded physician and Chairman of the Center for Infectious Diseases and Prevention at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center.

Donald E. Craven, MD, is a distinguished  dedicated leader in the field of healthcare and higher education. He serves as a professor of medicine at Tufts University and is the chairman of the Center for Infectious Diseases and Prevention at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center (LCMC). LCMC is a physician-led, nonprofit group practice with more than 500 physicians and 5,000 nurses, therapists and other support staff working together.

Dr. Craven earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Wesleyan University.  Wesleyan University, founded in 1831, is a private liberal arts college in Middletown, Connecticut.

He received a Doctor of Medicine from Albany Medical College in Albany, NY.  He completed his residency residency and fellowship at the Royal Victoria Hospital with McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The Royal Victoria Hospital (French: Hôpital Royal Victoria), forms part of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC), which is affiliated with McGill University.

Dr. Craven also completed an additional fellowship in infectious diseases at Boston University, BU School of Public Health.
Dr. Craven has contributed and published approximately 200 articles on hospital epidemiology and AIDS to medical journals. He also has severed on the advisory committee for the Hospital Infection Control Practices at the Centers for Disease Control,  and the advisory board for the AIDS Action Committee.

In 1993, Dr. Craven served as the president of the Society of Healthcare Epidemiologists. He was selected to the advisory board for AIDS at Mass General from 1988 to 1993. Notably, he was a leading physician during the inception of the AIDS epidemic in 1979, having had the privilege of working on one of the first cases of AIDS during that time.

Dr. Craven is the recipient of numerous awards and accolades including the Governor Recognition Award for AIDS Research in 1987, one of America’s Top Doctors, and listed among the Best Doctors of America for over 15 years in a row.  He has also been selected in several editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare, and Who’s Who in Science and Engineering.
