Dr. Elizabeth C. Muss: Pioneering Female Cardiologist Advocating for Heart Health Education in New York City
Championing Prevention and Comprehensive Care for a Healthier Community
Dr. Muss, one of only 20 female cardiologists in private solo practice in New York City, is on a mission to promote heart health education and preventative care for adults. With over three decades of experience in the medical field, Dr. Muss emphasizes the importance of starting heart health education as early as age 18-20, leading her to incorporate primary care into her cardiology practice.
In her experience, a staggering 90% of her primary care patients have cardiac issues, including hypertension, high cholesterol, obesity, and smoking-related health concerns. By addressing these issues early on, Dr. Muss aims to empower young adults to take charge of their heart health, potentially preventing serious conditions later in life.
Dr. Muss’s illustrious career began after she graduated from New York Medical College in 1968. Following her graduation, she completed a six-month internship in internal medicine and pediatrics at Boston City Hospital. Although she was accepted into a pediatric neurology residency, her true passion lay in emergency care, where she spent her spare time in the adult ER. This experience solidified her commitment to the field of cardiology.
Currently, Dr. Muss serves as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College and holds several prestigious positions, including Assistant Attending Physician at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center and Associate Attending Physician at Mount Sinai Beth Israel Medical Center. Additionally, she is a Cardiac Consultant at the Hospital for Special Surgery, showcasing her multifaceted expertise in cardiovascular health.
As a board-certified specialist in internal medicine and cardiovascular disease by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM), Dr. Muss adheres to the highest standards of care and continues to contribute to the medical community. She is also a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC) and a member of several professional organizations, including the New York Cardiological Society and the Medical Society of the State of New York.
Outside of her medical practice, Dr. Muss enjoys horseback riding, golfing, and dancing, and was an avid ice skater until a recent injury. She is fluent in both English and Hebrew, further enhancing her ability to connect with diverse patient populations.
