Frank W. Bowden, III, MD, FACS, a distinguished ophthalmologist with deep roots in Tennessee, is proud to announce his continued dedication to providing exceptional eye care through his practice, Bowden Eye & Associates, which has been serving the Jacksonville community since 2001. With a robust background that includes military service and extensive training, Dr. Bowden is a leading authority in the treatment of corneal and external diseases, refractive surgery, cataract surgery and dry eye care, making him a vital resource for patients in the southeast region.3
Born and raised in Knoxville, Tennessee, Dr. Bowden graduated summa cum laude from the University of Tennessee and earned his medical degree as valedictorian of his class at Meharry Medical College. He completed an internship and residency at the U.S. Naval Hospital in San Diego before pursuing a fellowship at the prestigious Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia. His military service as a battalion surgeon with the US Marine Corps and staff ophthalmologist at the Naval Hospital Jacksonville further honed his skills and commitment to high level patient care.
In 1988, Dr. Bowden co-founded the multisubspecialty Baptist Eye Institute, which laid the groundwork for his current practice, Bowden Eye & Associates. His current practice includes a dedicated team of 5 physicians across three locations, ensuring that patients have access to comprehensive and specialty eye care services. Dr. Bowden specializes in multiple ocular surgical procedures which include laser cataract surgery, advanced corneal transplantation, keratoconus treatment, LASIK, ICL surgery, glaucoma surgery, and dry eye procedures. He also provides consultation and surgery to manage complications of anterior segment surgery.
Dr. Bowden’s commitment to the field extends beyond his clinical practice; he frequently shares his expertise at professional conferences, and speaks for selected ophthalmic industry partners. He has served as the official ophthalmologist for the NFL’s Jacksonville Jaguars from the team’s inception until 2020.
Outside of his professional activities, Dr. Bowden remains a passionate supporter of the NFL Jacksonville Jaguars and Tennessee Volunteer football and basketball. He enjoys maintaining an active lifestyle through tennis and personal fitness. He cherishes his family and friends, as well as his connections with the Jacksonville community.
