Detroit, MI – Dr. Niru Prasad, a distinguished pediatrician and community advocate, has dedicated over forty years to improving the health and well-being of children and families locally and globally. Her lifelong mission to serve others began as a schoolgirl in Patna, India, where daily encounters with an orphanage for blind children inspired her to become a physician.
Dr. Prasad earned her medical degree from Patna Medical College before completing her residency in Pediatrics at the Children’s Hospital of Michigan. She is board-certified in Pediatrics and Emergency Medicine, a fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians and the American Academy of Pediatrics, and serves as a senior staff physician with Henry Ford Health System, St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, and Beaumont Hospitals in Michigan.
Her remarkable contributions to medicine and community health have earned numerous accolades, including the AMA Inspiration Award, AMA Recognition Award, Lifetime Humanitarian Award, BCBS Caring for Children Angel Award, America’s Top Pediatrician Award, and induction into the Heritage Hall of Fame, with her portrait on permanent display at Detroit’s Cobo Hall.
In addition to her medical practice, Dr. Prasad is a prolific author and motivational speaker. Her books, How to Keep Your Child Safe and Healthy and A Guide to Navigating Childhood Development and Wellbeing, support health education and charitable causes, with proceeds benefiting India’s Orphanage for Blind Children. She has also contributed extensively to health publications, hosted a radio health talk show on WPON 1460, and currently anchors Health Talk on community access television, the longest-running program on her local cable network for over twenty-five years.

Outside of her professional achievements, Dr. Prasad enjoys a fulfilling personal life with her husband, an orthopedic surgeon, and is a proud mother of four children and grandmother to six grandsons.
