Dr. Miranda is a triple board certified specialist in medical oncology, hematology and internal medicine, highly experienced in providing comprehensive care to patients with the most common types of cancer and blood disorders.
Recognized for high-quality care, he is the Owner & Operator of Oncology & Hematology of South Texas, PA. It is the only independent community-based oncology and hematology practice in Laredo, Texas.
In addition to cancer treatments, Dr. Miranda and his team treat blood disorders, including anemia, leukemia, lymphoma, multiple myeloma, and myelodysplasia. They also offer their services within the added state-of-the-art infusion center.
Regarding his educational background, Dr. Miranda graduated with his medical degree from Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara School of Medicine in Mexico in 1982. He then relocated to the United States, performing his residency in internal medicine at Jackson Memorial Hospital and his fellowship in hematology/oncology at Arizona Cancer Center.
After completing post-graduate training at top universities, Dr. Miranda worked for 7 years in Arizona, providing private academic patient care, clinical research, and teaching. Thereafter, he joined a prestigious oncology group in Phoenix/Scottsdale.
Three years later, he joined the medical community of Laredo to help meet the need for quality cancer services.
Since 1999, Dr. Miranda and his staff have worked very hard to improve patient care for those affected with cancer in Laredo and the surrounding communities of Webb, Hebbronville, Zapata, and Hidalgo.
Among his various titles at Doctors Hospital of Laredo, he has been serving as Chairman of the Cancer Committee since 2000, and as Chief of Medicine since 2022.
Dedicated to surgical excellence, the doctor is board-certified in medical oncology, hematology, and internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.
Licensed to practice medicine in Arizona, Florida, and Texas, Dr. Miranda is recognized as the youngest Fellow in Arizona state history of the American Oncology Physicians. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP).
Maintaining membership status with a number of professional organizations, he is an active member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Society of Hematology, the Southwest Oncology Group, the Texas Society of Medical Oncology, and the American College of Surgeons Oncology Group.
Among Dr. Miranda’s research efforts / clinical trials include: Phase III randomized clinical trials in lung, breast, head and neck, gastrointestinal, genitourinary and hematological malignancies; and Phase I/II trial of experimental agents in refractory solid tumors of hematological malignancies and palliative supportive interventions in cancer patients.
