He has received numerous accolades, including the Graduation Speaker Nominee by the Duke University School of Nursing Dean in May 2021, and the Rising Star of Research and Scholarship Award by Sigma Theta Tau in March 2019. His leadership was recognized early in his career with the Leadership Award from the University of Maryland School of Nursing in 2014.

As a member of various professional societies, including the Air & Surface Transport Nurses Association and the American Association of Critical Care Nurses, Stene stays at the forefront of nursing practice and innovation. When asked about the driving force behind his success, Stene credits his parents, saying, “My dad was a doctor and my mom was a nurse.
