Edward Zebovitz, DDS, a Dentist in Private Practice

Get to know Dentist Dr. Edward Zebovitz, who serves patients in Bowie, Maryland.

Dr. Zebovitz is an accomplished oral surgeon by day, generous humanitarian, dedicated husband and father, and international traveller. Making the most of his gifts and talents, he is as comfortable practicing in his state-of-the-art office in Bowie, Maryland as he is in rural primitive facilities, serving the needy across the globe and across the street.

A seasoned professional, he demonstrates expertise in the reconstruction of jaw and facial deformities, and the management of temporomandibular joint disorders and occlusion, or joint and bite issues of the jaw. He specializes in treating the effects of jaw and facial deformities with regard to breathing, including obstructive sleep apnea. His mission is to achieve predictable and lasting results. To that end, he incorporates current, proven diagnostic protocols and treatment modalities into his practice, and embraces innovations in the field.

Having grown up in Frederick, Maryland, Dr. Zebovitz finished his undergraduate education at the University of Maryland. He then went on to earn his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the Howard University College of Dentistry. He completed his residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery in 1993, participating in a combined program sponsored by the D.C. General, Washington D.C. Veteran and Howard University Hospitals.

His training also included completion of a fellowship in maxillofacial surgery in 1994, in conjunction with the Missouri Baptist Medical Center and St. Louis University. (Just three programs existed in the United States at the time.) There, Dr. Zebovitz flourished under the tutelage of Dr. Kenneth Rotskoff, MD, DDS. A pioneer in the field, Dr. Rotskoff forged innovations in microsurgical temporomandibular joint surgery, and published several peer-reviewed articles.

Committed to pursuing continuing education, Dr. Zebovitz has completed extensive course work with national and international experts. He is an alumnus of the prestigious Pankey Institute, the Dawson Center of Dental Studies, and the Piper Institute.

Certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, he shares his skills and collaborates with colleagues, maintaining membership in several professional organizations, including: the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (Fellow), the Alpha Omega Dental Fraternity, the American Equilibration Society, the International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, and multiple peer study groups.

A sought-after speaker, Dr. Zebovitz lectures on the topics of contemporary and innovative surgical techniques and treatment protocols. Since 2006, he has served as Chief of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis, Maryland.

Dentistry, also known as Dental and Oral Medicine, is a branch of medicine that consists of the study, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of diseases, disorders, and conditions of the oral cavity. Dentists diagnose and treat dental issues and help patients develop better oral hygiene regimens. They clean teeth, correct bite issues, perform surgeries and extractions, and perform other duties to ensure that the teeth and mouth are healthy.

Sharing the gift of smiles to needy communities, Dr. Zebovitz participates in scores of international surgical missions, providing free surgery to those in need. Offering hope and bright new smiles to families in the Philippines, East Africa and the Caribbean, he corrects and manages congenital cleft lip and palate deformities. Counting these experiences as the most gratifying of his life’s work, he plans to continue promoting his missions as he travels across the continents.

Close to home, he serves needy communities, offering free services to the poor by volunteering with Donated Dental. He also serves at Anne Arundel Medical Center’s free dental clinic at the Stanton Center in Annapolis.

To date, Dr. Zebovitz has participated in more than a dozen surgical mission trips. His most recent trip took place during the first quarter of 2009, when he traveled to Sorsogon, Philippines as the chief of a multi-specialty surgical team, where his responsibilities included team recruiting and medical supplies management.

He finances most of his own mission efforts, donating approximately $15,000 per trip listed. He maintains the rewards are well worth the investment.

On a more personal note, Dr. Zebovitz is married to an extremely talented obstetrician-gynecologist, Coryse Brathwaite, MD, who is also on staff at Anne Arundel Medical Center. Together, they have 4 incredible and talented children: two daughters, Gabrielle and Katherine & two sons, Justin and Jonathan.

Aside from dentistry, Dr. Zebovitz cites international travel, skiing, and spending time with family as his life’s passions.
