Elad Anter, MD, FACC, a Cardiac Electrophysiologist at Shamir Medical Center, Israel

Get to know Dr. Elad Anter, a distinguished cardiologist, expert in rhythm abnormalities, who serves as the head of the Arrhythmia Institute at Shamir Medical Center in Israel.

Professor Anter is a world-renowned cardiologist and specialist in the treatment of arrhythmias who leads the arrhythmia institute at Shamir Medical Center. This Israeli leading institute combines advanced treatments, technological innovation, and academic excellence.

Considered one of the most recognized doctors in the world in the field of arrhythmias, Dr. Anter has developed in his laboratory modern methods and technologies for the treatment of arrhythmias for the past 20 years. He has also guided many doctors from all over the world who came to specialize in his department.

Academically, Dr. Anter earned his undergraduate and medical degrees from The Hebrew University of Jerusalem in Israel. He relocated to the United States for a postdoctoral research fellowship in molecular biology at Boston University and remained in Boston to complete his residency in internal medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He continued his training as a fellow in cardiovascular medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, where he then completed his subspecialty training in cardiac electrophysiology.

Dr. Anter was then recruited to the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston by the late Dr. Mark E. Josephson, a pioneer in the field of cardiac electrophysiology. Drs. Anter and Josephson worked closely together and have made significant contributions to the field of cardiac electrophysiology.

During this tenure, he established a translational research laboratory that focuses on studying mechanisms of arrhythmias and translating this knowledge into innovations that improve patient care. This research laboratory has been pivotal in describing mechanisms of reentrant ventricular tachycardias, developing new mapping catheters and ablation technologies, that have since become standard of care.

After 10 years at Harvard University, Dr. Anter was recruited to the Cleveland Clinic, the world’s leading hospital for cardiology, as a distinguished Professor of Medicine and co-director of the arrhythmia section.

His many contributions to the world of medicine and especially to the research and teaching of arrhythmias have earned him the title of Associate Professor at Harvard University and a leading international name in his field with thousands of patients from all over the United States.

“I’ve learned a lot from my own mentors who were instrumental in shaping me, and I share what I’ve learned with my mentees” expressed Dr. Anter.

A Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC), he is board-certified in internal medicine and cardiovascular disease by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Clinical cardiac electrophysiology (also referred to as cardiac electrophysiology, arrhythmia services, or electrophysiology), is a branch of the medical specialty of cardiology and is concerned with the study and treatment of rhythm disorders of the heart. An electrophysiologist is a type of cardiologist. They focus on the heart’s timing, or electrical system, and on diagnosing and treating irregular heartbeats or arrhythmias. They are also qualified to perform special tests of the heart’s electrical system, such as an electrophysiology study or an ablation.

Highly successful in the medical field, Dr. Anter is an international lecturer, a member editor of prestigious medical journals, and a member of the writing committees of the recommendations for the treatment of arrhythmias. He has published nearly 100 original articles in high-impact peer-reviewed medical journals, and frequently speaks at national and international medical meetings on his research and clinical interests.

On a more personal note, he speaks English and Hebrew.
