Get to know Interventional Cardiologist Dr. Elias Kassab, who serves patients throughout the State of Michigan.

Dr. Kassab has been a practicing interventional cardiologist, specializing in cardiac and vascular disease, in the state of Michigan since 1988. 

Currently, he is the President & CEO of Dearborn Cardiology, with offices in Dearborn, Rochester, Taylor, and Berkley, Michigan. 

In addition to this role, he has been the CEO of Michigan Outpatient Vascular Institute since 2012, holding the task of developing outpatient vascular centers throughout the United States. He hopes to continue his medical skills, helping to improve patient outcomes and encourage the next generation of physicians.

In 2023, he accepted the additional position of chief executive officer of the Michigan Outpatient Vascular Institute’s Ambulatory Surgery Center.

In preparation for his career in cardiology, Dr. Kassab completed pre-medicine coursework at the American University of Beirut in Lebanon. He then graduated with his medical degree from the Universite Libre de Bruxelles in Belgium and wanted to further his studies in the United States. He went on to complete his internship and residency at Wayne State University, followed by a fellowship in cardiology at William Beaumont Hospital located in Royal Oak, Michigan.

Dedicated to surgical excellence, the doctor is board-certified in cardiovascular disease, internal medicine, and interventional cardiology by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Moreover, he holds board certifications in endovascular and vascular medicine through the American Board of Vascular Medicine (ABVM). The ABVM is an independent organization dedicated to the certification of qualified vascular medicine physicians.

A Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation (RPVI), Dr. Kassab is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, a Fellow of the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions, a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, a Fellow of the American Heart Association, and a Fellow of the Society for Vascular Medicine.

In addition, he is a member of the American Medical Association and the Michigan State Medical Society.

In March 2012, Dr. Kassab was appointed Clinical Assistant Professor-Voluntary Faculty to the Wayne State University Faculty School of Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine. Also, effective January, 2013, he was selected as Chief Medical Officer, Cardiac and Vascular Services for Atlantis Health Group for the United States Midwest region. He is the past Corporate Medical Director for Carotid Intervention and Limb Salvage for the Oakwood Healthcare System.

Over the past several years, Dr. Kassab has been the Principal and Co-Investigator for Carotid and Peripheral Research Trials at Oakwood Hospital and Medical Center and at the Detroit Medical Center, Harper University Hospital. He has also been a course director, proctor, and trainer for Carotid Angiograms/Stenting, Peripheral Procedures and Excimer Laser Applications. 

More recently, he has taken on a new endeavor as a developer of seven medical devices.

Interventional cardiology is a branch of cardiology that deals specifically with the catheter-based treatment of structural heart diseases. An interventional cardiologist is a cardiologist with one to two years of additional education and training in diagnosing and treating cardiovascular disease as well as congenital (present at birth) and structural heart conditions through catheter-based procedures, such as angioplasty and stenting.

Serving as a teacher, lecturer, and public speaker, Dr. Kassab has also conducted many publications, including 2 book chapters in Dr. Krishna Jain’s book “Office-based Endovascular Centers.” He attributes his success to his love of the medical field, research, patient care/safety, education, and newest technology.

In his spare time, he enjoys art, drinking wine, golfing, exercising, cooking, traveling, and researching.
