Ellen Elizabeth Wilson, MD, an Pediatric Gynecologist with Children’s Health

Get to know Pediatric Gynecologist Dr. Ellen Elizabeth Wilson, who serves patients in Texas.

A caring pediatric gynecologist, Dr. Wilson is the Division Director for Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology at Children’s Health.

Operating out of Children’s Health Specialty Center Dallas Campus & Specialty Center 1 on the Children’s Health Plano Campus, she specializes in treating advanced reproductive disorders, including congenital anomalies of the female reproductive tract, endometriosis, and fibroid tumors.

Gynecologic conditions can affect females of any age, not just adult women. Infants, young girls and adolescents can present with hormonal or anatomical issues that are uncommon, complex or different from those seen in adults. Dr. Wilson was drawn to the challenge of treating these young patients.

“I love the field of reproductive endocrinology, and it’s a good bridge to pediatric and adolescent gynecology. Many children present with hormonal and anatomical abnormalities very different from those we see in adults. They can also have rare disorders that a general practitioner may not often see or have much experience treating” she stated.

Dr. Wilson says she gets many referrals from the general ob/gyn community because most general ob/gyn training does not include pediatric adolescent gynecology. It’s a specialty for which there are still few advanced training opportunities in the United States and Canada.

“There is a large need in the Dallas community for these services, and there are very few practitioners who offer it. I can’t imagine a better job – being able to go into work every day and make a difference in the lives of these young girls” expressed the doctor.

Alongside her clinical role, she serves on the faculty of UT Southwestern’s Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. In 2021, she became the Director of the Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility Fellowship, taking over for Bruce R. Carr, MD.

Regarding her educational background, Dr. Wilson earned her medical degree at Baylor College of Medicine and completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at George Washington University Hospital. She received advanced training in reproductive endocrinology and infertility through a fellowship at UT Southwestern, followed by a separate fellowship in minimally invasive surgery at The Woman’s Hospital of Texas in Houston.

Following her training, she attained board certification in obstetrics and gynecology & reproductive endocrinology through the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG). The mission of the ABOG is to define specialty standards, certify obstetricians and gynecologists, and facilitate continuous learning to advance knowledge, practice, and professionalism in women’s health.

A Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, Dr. Wilson is a member of various medical organizations such as the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, the North American Society for Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology, and the Association of Advanced Laparoscopic Surgeons.

Her research interests include robotic and minimally invasive surgery & pediatric-adolescent gynecology.

Pediatric gynaecology or pediatric gynecology is the medical practice dealing with the health of the vagina, vulva, uterus, and ovaries of infants, children, and adolescents. A pediatric gynecologist cares for children, adolescents and young women with gynecologic concerns.

Publishing a number of academic articles, Dr. Wilson has contributed to books such as Williams Gynecology, and has delivered scores of presentations and lectures.

Throughout her fruitful career, she has been named in Texas Super Doctors by Texas Monthly Magazine from 2004 through 2020, Best Doctors in Dallas by D Magazine (2005, 2006, 2010, 2012, 2017), Dynamic Women of Dallas by Modern Luxury Fall Edition in 2013, Top Doctor in Reproductive Endocrinology and Gynecology in 2013, and America’s Most Compassionate Doctors. She has also received the Medical Student Teaching Award in 2013 and Fellows Teaching Award in 2006 and 2009.

Outside of her practice, Dr. Wilson enjoys spending time with her husband – who owns an orthopedic sales business – and her daughter when she’s home from college. She works out every day, and can also be found reading or traveling the globe. She speaks English and French.
