With over 24 years of experience in the field of cardiology, Dr. Mellow understands the importance of both long-term preventative care and addressing acute needs. Her main emphasis is to analyze risk and provide interventions to reduce the chances of encountering undesirable cardiovascular outcomes such as sudden cardiac death, acute myocardial infarction (heart attack), development of coronary artery disease (blockages in the arteries supplying blood to the heart), stroke and kidney damage.

Dr. Mellow received her undergraduate degree at Princeton University in 1975 and her medical degree at Cornell University Medical College in 1980. She then went on to complete her residency in internal medicine at the NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill-Cornell Medical Center in 1983. She completed a fellowship in critical care medicine with the National Institutes of Health in 1986, and thereafter a fellowship in cardiovascular disease at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in 1989. After completing her education, she was a full time faculty member at the Weill-Cornell Medical College for many years before she went into practice. She remains adjunct faculty of the medical center and has admitting priviledges to New York-Presbyterian Hospital.

As a testament of her continued education, the doctor is board-certified in cardiovascular disease (1989) and in internal medicine (1983) by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Cardiology is a branch of medicine that deals with the disorders of the heart, as well as some parts of the circulatory system. The field includes medical diagnosis and treatment of congenital heart defects, coronary artery disease, heart failure, valvular heart disease, and electrophysiology.
