McAllen, Texas – The South Texas Health System Graduate Medical Education Consortium is proud to highlight Michael S. Menowsky, MD, FACEP, as the Associate Program Director of its Emergency Medicine Residency Program. Based in Hidalgo County, in the picturesque Rio Grande Valley, Dr. Menowsky is dedicated to training the next generation of emergency medicine physicians through a comprehensive and dynamic educational experience.
The Emergency Medicine Residency Program aims to equip residents with the skills, compassion, and resilience needed to excel in their medical careers and serve their communities effectively. Dr. Menowsky emphasizes the importance of mentorship and hands-on training, believing that the best way to learn is through real-life experiences in a collaborative environment. His commitment to nurturing the professional development of residents ensures they are well-prepared to meet the challenges of emergency medicine head-on.
In addition to his role at the South Texas Health System, Dr. Menowsky serves as a Faculty Assistant Professor in The Department of Emergency Medicine at the Joe R. & Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine at UT Health San Antonio. His academic involvement reflects his dedication to fostering a culture of excellence in medical education and providing residents with the knowledge and skills necessary to thrive in a demanding field.
Dr. Menowsky’s journey into medicine is rooted in his diverse experiences. After completing high school, he proudly served in the U.S. Air Force, where he trained as both an Air Frame mechanic and an EMT. His military service took him across the globe to England, Japan, and the Middle East, instilling in him a profound appreciation for different cultures. After his discharge, he pursued further training as an EMT-Paramedic at the Baltimore County Fire and Rescue Academy.
While he enjoyed the challenges of emergency care, Dr. Menowsky aspired to do more, leading him to complete an accelerated Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing at Howard University College of Nursing, graduating Summa Cum Laude. He then worked in the Emergency Department in McAllen, Texas, where the collaborative environment and mentorship from emergency medicine doctors inspired him to pursue medical school. Dr. Menowsky returned to Howard University College of Medicine for his medical education, building on the strong connections he had formed during his nursing studies.
After completing his residency in emergency medicine at CHRISTUS Health from 2011 to 2014, Dr. Menowsky continued his education with a fellowship in critical care medicine (anesthesiology) at the University of Alabama Medical Center from 2014 to 2016.
Board-certified in emergency medicine and anesthesiology critical care medicine, Dr. Menowsky is recognized as a Diplomate of the American Board of Emergency Medicine and is a Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians (FACEP). His extensive training and dedication to patient care make him a valuable asset to the South Texas healthcare community.
