Dr. McDowell is a renowned orthodontist who is currently serving patients’ dental needs at Blue Wave Orthodontics in Tampa Bay, Florida. Blue Wave Orthodontics offers orthodontic services for children, teen and adult patients, including both traditional braces and state-of-the-art Invisalign aligners.
Blue Wave Orthodontics is the merged vision of Dr. McDowell and orthodontist Dr. Randy Feldman. In 2016, they combined their respective practices, Feldman Orthodontics and McDowell Orthodontics, to take the next step in providing quality patient care in launching Blue Wave Orthodontics. They are joined by a talented team of doctors in their dedication to providing unparalleled experiences and beautiful smiles to the Tampa Bay, Pinellas, and Bradenton/Sarasota regions.

As a Tampa Bay Area local, Dr. McDowell began his education at the University of South Florida and then earned his Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry degree from the University of Florida. He then went on to complete his residency in orthodontics at the University of Louisville in 1987, after which he returned to Pinellas County to begin his private practice.
Dr. McDowell is board-certified by the American Board of Orthodontists (ABO). The ABO is the only orthodontic specialty board recognized by the American Dental Association and in affiliation with the American Association of Orthodontists. Dr. McDowell is past President of the Pinellas Dental Board.
Dr. McDowell has achieved an Elite Provider Status for Invisalign due to his extensive level of education and experience with the exciting new technology. This level is awarded to only the top 1% of Invisalign providers in the world.
Every year, Dr. McDowell is a sponsor of six separate Little League baseball and softball teams throughout Pinellas County. He also participates in local health fairs, various YMCAs, community projects, and more. Dr. McDowell enjoys spending time with his wife, Katie, and their four wonderful children – Pierce, Naomi, Natalia, and Milan.
