John A. Linfoot, MS, MD is an Endocrinologist and Nuclear Medicine Specialist at the Diabetes and Endocrine Institute in Lafayette, California and he has over six decades of experience in his field. His distinguished career in medicine began in 1955 when he received his Bachelor of Medicine, and Master’s Degrees in Physiology and Pharmacology from the University of North Dakota. Thereafter, he graduated with his Medical Degree in 1957 from Harvard Medical School, before completing his internship, residency and fellowship at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. Dr. Linfoot obtained board certification in Endocrinology and Metabolism, Nuclear Medicine, and Internal Medicine.
For 20 years, Dr. Linfoot was a research associate and senior staff scientist at the Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory, where he directed the patient care and laboratory programs for patients undergoing heavy ion pituitary irradiation at the 184-inch synchrocyclotron. The pituitary irradiation program employed magnetically focused pituitary irradiation for patients with pituitary tumors, diabetic retinopathy and metastatic breast cancer. He subsequently developed endocrine testing laboratories and treatment centers at Alta Bates Hospital in Berkeley and Providence Hospital in Oakland, California before starting his private practice.
Dr. Linfoot is recognized as one of the most experienced endocrinologists in the United States, treating children and adults with pituitary, thyroid, adrenal, gonadal diseases and metabolic disorders e.g. diabetes and hyperlipidemia. He is a member of the Endocrine Society, American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists and the American Diabetes Association, and also serves as a Clinical Professor of Medicine, Emeritus at the University of California at Davis, in California.
