Exceptional Family Nurse Practitioner Cheryl L. Layfield, RN, MSN, CFNP, will be Announced in FindaTopDoc
FindaTopDoc is pleased to welcome Cheryl L. Layfield, RN, MSN, CFNP, to their prestigious organization with her upcoming publication in the FindaTopDoc. Cheryl L. Layfield is a highly respected Family Nurse Practitioner, who currently maintains her position at the Atlantic General Hospital both at the Health Center and the Immediate Care as well as the Emergency Physicians Medical Group working at Nanticoke Hospital in Seaford, Delaware. Featuring experience in the nursing field, she is noted for her expertise in School Nursing, Emergency Nursing and Critical Care Nursing. In addition, Cheryl recently retired after many years at the Indian River School District where she worked at Selbyville Middle School and was instrumental in initiating the CPR AED programs at the various schools in the district where lives have been saved by persons trained by Mrs. Layfield. She was the Vice-Chairperson for the Governor’s Council on Injury Prevention in the 1980’s.
Mrs. Layfield worked more than 17 years at Beebe Hospital in Lewes, De. in the ICU and ER. She then worked for 12 years at Milford Memorial Hospital in the ICU, ER, and Nursing Supervisor position. She then, after receiving her Nurse Practitioner and MSN degrees, worked part-time at St. Francis Hospital Emergency room in Wilmington, De, in their Fast Track area.
Cheryl attended Delaware Technical and Community college where she acquired her ADN and then Wilmington College for her BSN. She then completed her MSN and NP degrees at Wilmington University. More recently she attends Wilmington University, where she is a Doctoral candidate in the Doctor of Education Program. As one of the top students of Wilmington University, she was inducted into the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. Furthermore, in order to stay active in her field, she became certified as an instructor in Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Basic Cardiac Life support, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support. Cheryl helped to start the PALS program at Beebe Medical in the 1980’s. Due to her many accomplishments, Cheryl was the recipient of the Delaware Excellence Nurse Practice Award in 2007.
Cheryl’s generous nature helped initiate the first wellness center in two high schools in the Indian River School District. She also took on the role of State Director of the Emergency Nurses Cancel Alcohol Related Emergencies (ENCARE) and during her time as director the mortality rate of deaths on prom and graduation nights were decreased. She then took on the role as the first Paramedic Instructor for the lower two Counties in Delaware in 1990. In addition, Cheryl precepted many Nurse Practitioner Students at Wilmington University. More recently, as a clinical site advisor for the University of Delaware, Cheryl spent many hours training Nurse Practitioner students in Sussex County.
In order to stay up to date on developments in her field, Cheryl is an active member of the Delaware Nurses Association, Emergency Nurses Association, Delaware Advanced Practice Nurses Council, American Association of Critical-Care Nurses, and is currently active with the Delaware Coalition of Nurse Practitioners for lower Delaware.
