Get to know Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, Dr. Florence Roque, who serves patients in Deming, New Mexico.

Dr. Roque is a certified pediatric nurse practitioner who is currently serving patients at her private practice – Southwest Pediatric Care – in Deming, New Mexico. Southwest Pediatric Care aims to provide holistic care to pediatric patients with a focus on disease prevention, growth and development, and health promotion.

Dr. Roque was born in a small, rural town and raised in a metropolitan city of the Philippine Islands. Today, living and practicing in Deming reminds her of similar simple rural living, while appreciating the modern conveniences of surrounding cities– Las Cruces, NM and El Paso, TX.

After high school, Dr. Roque attended and graduated with her bachelor’s degree at Johnson University in Knoxville, TN, with a major in Bible and Youth Ministry. While serving as a Youth Director for 6 years at an inner-city church in Chicago, she met her lifetime love and now business partner, Joel Roque, who was also working with the youth and young adults at his church. During that time, it became clear to the couple that there was a great need for holistic intervention among children and youth in the community. Hence, Dr. Roque continued and graduated with an additional bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in Maternal-Child Nursing from Rush University in Chicago, Illinois. She then went on to earn her doctorate degree in pediatric nursing, with genetics as a subspeciality, at Rush University.

After 9 years of working in the inner-cities of Chicago, the Roques relocated for the warmer climate of Phoenix, where they stayed for 5 years. Today, with over 20 years professional experience in pediatric primary care, asthma, allergy, and congenital disorders, Dr. Roque offers extensive knowledge in the prevention of acute illnesses and the treatment of pediatric disorders. Her multi-cultural background enriches her expertise in communicating the importance of health promotion with children and parents from all walks of life. Her holistic approach is evident throughout the services that her clinic offers, such as well-child visits, allergy testing, spirometry, referrals to pediatric specialists, and collaboration with community resources.

Dr. Roque is a member of the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the New Mexico Nurse Practitioner Council.

A pediatric nurse is a registered nurse or nurse practitioner who specializes in the care of children from birth to young adult. They focus on primary care, preventive health, and growth and development, along with managing acute and chronic illnesses. Pediatric nurse practitioners (PNPs) are first and foremost nurses, which means patient education and holistic care is a significant part of their practice.

The Roques are actively involved locally through the activities of their church, and internationally through their charity arm – JoFlo Outreach International (JOI) Foundation. They have two adorable toy poodles, Gideon and Angel, who are therapy dogs mostly available for post-immunization patients in the afternoon clinics. The family loves to go on hikes whenever time and weather permit.
