As a skilled and compassionate pediatric orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Georgopoulos’ care philosophy is providing the highest quality professional and ethical care to all patients through the integration of comprehensive education and exceptional musculoskeletal research. She is in practice with the Orthopedics Institute at Children’s Hospital Colorado in Aurora.

“The Orthopedics Institute at Children’s Hospital Colorado consistently provides some of the best care in the nation when it comes to orthopedics for children. We are one of only a few truly integrated children’s hospital orthopedics programs, meaning we offer several services all in one place: pediatric orthopedics, orthopedic surgery, and rehabilitation medicine. Every physician, surgeon, rehabilitation specialist, and nurse on our team is specially trained and has experience providing pediatric care for bones, muscles, movement and more in children from infancy to young adulthood” as stated on their website.

With a clinical interest in the care of pediatric orthopedic surgery, some of the conditions that Dr. Georgopoulos treats include idiopathic scoliosis, early onset scoliosis, myelomeningocele, spine injuries, as well as hip, foot and ankle injuries and disorders.  Special areas of interest are hip dysplasia and clubfoot deformities. She is the medical director of the General Orthopedic Program at Children’s Hospital Colorado and was instrumental in developing a clubfoot program. Alongside her clinical role, she serves as an Associate Professor of Orthopedics at the University of Colorado School of Medicine.  Research interests include pediatric trauma injuries, clubfoot, and hip dysplasia.

Back in 1981, Dr. Georgopoulos earned her medical degree from the University of Michigan Medical School. She then went on to complete her internship and residency in orthopedic surgery through the University of North Carolina Hospitals Program in 1982 and 1986, respectively. This was followed by a fellowship in pediatric orthopedics through the University of Colorado (Children’s Hospital of Colorado) Program in 1989.

A Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the doctor is board-certified in orthopedic surgery by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery (ABOS). The ABOS is an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopedic residents and surgeons, as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopedic surgeons.

Orthopedic Surgery is the branch of surgery concerned with conditions involving the musculoskeletal system. Pediatric orthopedic surgeons diagnose, treat, and manage children’s musculoskeletal problems. They choose to make pediatric care the core of their medical practice, and the unique nature of medical and surgical care of children is learned from advanced training and experience in practice.

Honored for her services in the field, Dr. Georgopoulos is the recipient of the On-Time Doctor Award (2014, 2015), the Patients’ Choice Award (2011, 2014, 2015), and Compassionate Doctor Recognition (2011, 2014).
