Gennady Landa, MD, is a distinguished vitreoretinal specialist who serves as an Associate Professor of Ophthalmology and the Director of Retina Services in the Department of Ophthalmology at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai (NYEEI). With a comprehensive focus on complex cataract surgery, intraocular lens malposition, and diseases affecting the macula, retina, and vitreous, Dr. Landa is a full-time faculty member dedicated to providing exceptional patient care. Dr. Landa’s educational journey began with his medical degree from the Technion Israel Institute of Technology, followed by a residency in ophthalmology at Kaplan Hospital. He further honed his skills during a prestigious two-year surgical vitreoretinal fellowship at NYEEI, one of the oldest and busiest eye hospitals in the United States, consistently recognized among the top ophthalmic institutions by U.S. News and World Report. This environment has allowed him to excel in both clinical practice and research. 

As a highly regarded cataract and vitreoretinal surgeon, Dr. Landa specializes in the surgical and medical management of complex cataracts and various retinal conditions, including diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, retinal vascular occlusions, and pediatric retinal diseases. His surgical repertoire includes advanced techniques such as laser surgery, intraocular injections, scleral buckles, vitrectomies, and secondary intraocular lens implants. His esteemed reputation and expertise have made him a go-to cataract and vitreoretinal surgeon for optometrists and ophthalmologists and retina colleagues throughout New York City with its five boroughs, East New Jersey and Long Island

In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Landa plays a vital role in the administrative landscape of the Mount Sinai Department of Ophthalmology as the Vice-Chair for Clinical Integration. He is deeply committed to research, engaging in both basic and clinical investigations aimed at developing innovative treatments for age-related macular degeneration, inherited retinal degeneration, and other ocular diseases. At the Advanced Retinal Imaging Center at NYEEI, he is at the forefront of pioneering new retinal imaging techniques, enhancing diagnostic and treatment capabilities for patients.

An enthusiastic researcher, Dr. Landa has authored over 30 peer-reviewed scientific articles and book chapters, primarily centered on retinal diseases and surgical techniques. His research contributions have been recognized at major ophthalmology conferences, where he has presented more than 90 times internationally.

Dr. Landa was honored with numerous prestigious awards, including Senior Honor Award from the American Society of Retinal Specialists, he is also passionate about mentoring the next generation of medical professionals, guiding medical students, ophthalmology residents, and vitreoretinal fellows at the Retina Center of NYEEI. Dr. Landa serves as Associate Director of the Surgical Vitreoretinal Fellowship at NYEEI of Mount Sinai.
