Operating from the Penn State Health Children’s Lancaster Pediatric Center in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and Penn State Health Pediatric Specialties in Hershey, Dr. McSherry delivers unparalleled patient care tailored to combat a wide array of infectious diseases affecting children.

Dr. McSherry’s extensive expertise encompasses the treatment of antibiotic-resistant infections, cold sores, herpes simplex, bacterial diarrhea, and various fungal infections. He expertly manages complex cases involving liver infections, MRSA, recurrent infections, and serious conditions such as complicated pneumonia and tuberculosis (TB). His holistic approach focuses not only on addressing immediate medical needs but also on emphasizing long-term health outcomes for his young patients.

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. McSherry serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Infectious Diseases at Penn State College of Medicine. As Chief of the division, he received the Rookie Teacher of the Year Award in 2017, reflecting his dedication to education and mentorship. His academic interests include congenital and neonatal infections and invasive bacterial infections in infants and children, ensuring that he remains at the forefront of pediatric infectious disease research and education.

Dr. McSherry’s medical journey began at Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León, where he earned his Medical Degree in 1983. He completed the Fifth Pathway program at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School in 1984, followed by a pediatric internship and a residency at the same institution. His commitment to specialization continued with a fellowship in pediatric infectious disease, completed in 1989 at UMDNJ-Newark.

Board-certified in both pediatrics and pediatric infectious diseases by the American Board of Pediatrics, Dr. McSherry is also an active researcher, with interests in congenital and neonatal infections, invasive bacterial infections, and pediatric Staphylococcus aureus infections. His ongoing research aims to advance the understanding and treatment of pediatric infectious diseases, ultimately benefiting the health and well-being of children in the community.
