For nearly 20 years, Dr. Varlotta has been providing patients with highly-effective multidisciplinary treatment of orthopaedic injuries and conditions at his own practice in New York City, New York. His practice philosophy is that many spinal injuries and chronic pain conditions can be safely, effectively and permanently treated without the expense and risks of major back surgery.

Dr. Varlotta has treated everyone from professional athletes to elderly patients dealing with chronic pain or a slip-and-fall injury. His integrative approach to treatment focuses not only on addressing existing symptoms but also developing programs to train and heal the body to prevent future injury. In all cases, the ultimate goal is long-term relief of pain and restoration of optimal physical performance.

After graduating in 1978 from Colgate University, Dr. Varlotta attended Medical School at the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine. From his Orthopedic Research Internship in Sweden to his training in Rehabilitation Medicine at the University of Washington and NYU/Rusk Institute, his postdoctoral training is quite extensive. At the NYU School of Medicine, Dr. Varlotta was first appointed as the Clinical Instructor from 1992 until 1998. He then took on a different role as Clinical Assistant Professor from 1998 until 2004, after which he was promoted to Clinical Associate Professor.

Dr. Varlotta holds professional memberships with the American College of Sports Medicine (Fellow), the Physiatric Association of Spine Sports Occupational Rehab, the North American Spine Society, the American Academy of PM&R (Fellow), the American Board of Pain Medicine (Fellow), the US Olympic Medical Committee, the Association of Ringside Physicians, as well as the Association of Ringside Physicians.

Dr. Varlotta is board-certified in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (ABPMR). The mission of the ABPMR is to serve the public by improving the quality of patient care in physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R). This is accomplished through a process of certification and maintenance of certification that fosters excellence and encourages continuous learning.

An extensive publisher, presenter and course director, Dr. Varlotta is active as a sports medicine physician, serving as the Rehabilitation Consultant to the NY Islanders and New Jersey Nets. He is also Medical Captain of the NYC Marathon, on the medical team of the 1996 and 2002 Olympics and Paralympics, and a member of the 2012 NYC Olympic Committee. Furthermore, he is Team Physician of the NJ Red Dogs Arena Football Team, NJ Rockin Rollers and Long Island Jaws In-line Hockey team, as well as Co-Director of the Millrose Track and Field Games.

Being an avid sports enthusiast, Dr. Varlotta is the Medical Director for the NY Chapter of the Special Olympics, Consultant to S & F Football Agency, Team Physician for SUNY Purchase and a Ringside Physician for the NY State Athletic Commission for Boxing.
