With a special interest in research, education and global outreach, Dr. Mundis Jr. is the Section Chief Spine of Scripps Memorial Hospital, the Chief Executive Officer of Global Spine Outreach, and the Director of the San Diego Spine Foundation. With expertise in a wide variety of advanced techniques and procedures, the doctor is board certified in orthopedic surgery by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery (ABOS). The ABOS is an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopedic residents and surgeons as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopedic surgeons.

Orthopedic surgery is the branch of surgery concerned with conditions involving the musculoskeletal system. Orthopedic surgeons use both surgical and non-surgical means to treat musculoskeletal trauma, spine diseases, sports injuries, degenerative diseases, infections, tumors, and congenital disorders.

Beyond his clinical work, research and education efforts, Dr. Mundis Jr. dedicates personal time for several trips each year to underserved areas around the world to provide life-changing spinal surgeries for children as part of his volunteer work with Global Spine Outreach. He provides complex spinal surgeries for children who otherwise would not have access to modern healthcare. The volunteer work also allows Dr. Mundis Jr. the opportunity to educate and train surgeons in the latest surgical techniques.

He is frequently joined by his wife and family on these medical missions as a testament to their dedication to serving children in communities with unmet spinal needs. Dr. Mundis Jr. says he views his patients as an extension of his family. As a father of four, and the son of a missionary family, he believes that every patient encounter matters and that all deserve to have their story heard.
