Being a well-versed pulmonologist and critical care medicine specialist, Dr. Ranches treats a wide variety of lung diseases including asthma, COPD, and interstitial lung disease. He also specializes in the treatment of critically ill patients needing various forms of life support. This was followed by a fellowship in pulmonary disease and critical care medicine at Oregon Health Sciences University in 2018. 

Licensed to practice medicine in California and Oregon, he is board-certified in internal medicine, pulmonary disease, and critical care medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

A prominent professional in his field, Dr. Ranches has research experience in the epidemiology of non-cystic fibrosis bronchiectasis and nontuberculous mycobacterial infection, and has participated in clinical drug trials for the treatment of these two conditions. He is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, the American Thoracic Society, and the American College of Chest Physicians.
