Get to know compassionate and caring Labor and Delivery Nurse, Joann Nishihara Kujaski, who was inspired by her mother to fulfill her dream of succeeding in the nursing profession.
Joann Nishihara Kujaski, is a highly qualified registered nurse with extensive experience in labor and delivery nursing and mother-baby nursing. Her position is both rewarding and challenging; every day she assists in bringing new life into the world.
Nurse Kujaski was born in Okinawa, Japan, She vividly recalls accompanying her mother to the nurse midwife in her village and seeing the way the mothers to be were attended to and the care they were given. She enrolled in City College in San Francisco and had not yet decided on a major or an educational path. One of the courses she took was a health education class. It peaked her interest and from that one class, she decided on a career in nursing. She earned her bachelor’s degree in 1979 from San Francisco State University (SFU), a public urban university ‘with a conscience’ located in one of the world’s most vibrant and beautiful cities in the world.
Nurse Kujaski is employed by Kaiser Permanente, Founded in 1945, Kaiser Permanente is recognized as one of America’s leading health care providers and not-for-profit health plans. They current serve 12.2 patients in 8 states and the District of Columbia.
She is a member of the National Association of Neonatal Nurses; a professional organization whose mission is to address the educational and practice needs within the evolving specialty of neonatal nursing, while giving all neonatal nurses national representation.
Nurse Kujaski’s compassion for her patients are evidence of her commitment to providing the best possible outcomes and experience for mother and baby. Like all nurses, her role is critical and she focuses on patient care, however, a labor and delivery nurse like Ms. Kujaski works with women during childbirth, providing care during the important time leading up to delivery, assisting the patient and other health professionals during the delivery, and also providing care for the mother and baby after the infant is born.
Joann’s hobbies and interests include spending time with her grandchildren, gardening and traditional belly dancing. She loves animals and has a huge heart for animal rescue.
