Dr. Longo’s father provided him with the inspiration to become a surgeon. He grew up watching his father change lives and felt becoming a physician was his calling. He cares for patients who are 19 and older, using surgical and nonsurgical approaches to treat problems ranging from hemorrhoids to Crohn’s disease, inflammatory bowel disease, and ulcerative colitis, as well as cancer of the lower digestive tract.
He earned his medical degree from New York Medical College, one of the nation’s largest private health sciences universities. He performed his residency at Yale University School of Medicine in New Haven, CT where he was named Chief Resident. He earned an MBA from St. Louis University and gained a fellowship at the internationally recognized Cleveland Clinic Foundation.
Certified by the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery, Dr. Longo is affiliated with Smilow Cancer Hospital and Yale Medicine, with a mission to treat chronic illness and cancer by improving survival and overall quality of life.
The recipient of numerous awards and accolades, he was awarded the degree of Doctor Honoris Causa as a distinguished scholar for his contributions to his field.
