Dr. Alicia Germaine Howard a distinguished hospitalist physician at Catawba Valley Medical Center Hospitalists Group in Hickory, North Carolina, is making significant strides in both patient care and community health advocacy. Dr. Howard, who specializes in Internal Medicine, treats patients in the general medicine unit, intermediate care unit, and critical care unit. She is dedicated to improving healthcare access and quality for underserved populations in her role as a Hospitalist and in her role as a Physician Champion for the CVMC inpatient Addiction Medicine consult service.
With a strong commitment to excellence and leadership in healthcare, Dr. Howard also serves as the Medical Director of Quality Comprehensive Health Center in Charlotte, North Carolina. Dr. Howard is a proud native North Carolinian, having graduated from Harding University High School in Charlotte. She pursued her undergraduate studies at Howard University in Washington, DC, where she earned a dual degree in Biology and Psychology, graduating magna cum laude. Her academic excellence was recognized with induction into the prestigious Phi Beta Kappa honor society and her involvement with the Alpha Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc.
Following her undergraduate studies, Dr. Howard earned her Medical Degree from Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. During her time there, she received the Woman One scholarship and participated in the Albert Schweitzer fellowship, reflecting her commitment to serving others. Additionally, she obtained her Master’s in Public Health through a dual MD/MPH program at Drexel University School of Public Health, with a concentration in Health Management and Policy.
Dr. Howard completed her residency in Internal Medicine at Yale New Haven Hospital, where she honed her skills in a demanding and diverse healthcare environment. She is board certified in Internal Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine and in Addiction Medicine by the American Board of Preventive Medicine.
