A native of Czechoslovakia, Dr. Swaim graduated with her medical degree from the Comenius University Faculty of Medicine in 1992. After practicing medicine there for a year, she made the transition to the American medical system in Charlotte in 1999. She completed her residency in internal medicine at the Carolinas Medical Center in 2003.
Subsequent to her education, the doctor attained board certification in internal medicine through the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.
Internal medicine is the medical specialty dealing with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of adult diseases. Physicians specializing in internal medicine are called internists. In her free time, Dr. Swaim enjoys playing tennis and piano, figure skating and taking ski trips out west. Her favorite place to vacation for her and her children is her home country. She loves staying in touch with her roots and keeping her Slovak heritage, language and culture alive. Speaking several languages, she is fluent in English, Slovak, and Russian.
