Get to know Orthopaedic Surgeon Dr. J. Lee Pace, who serves patients in Farmington, Connecticut.

Dr. Pace is an experienced orthopaedic surgeon & a complex knee specialist who provides leading-edge orthopaedic and sports medicine care to patients at Elite Sports Medicine and Connecticut Children’s Medical Center in Farmington, Connecticut. He provides treatment for children and adults with joint issues, sports injuries, and many other problems.

With broad experience in clinical practice as well as research, Dr. Pace’s extensive expertise includes evaluation and care of the knees, hips, shoulders, elbows, and ankles. Dr. Pace traveled to Munich, Germany in 2016 to learn the technically demanding procedure, trochleoplasty, which is a procedure to help people with unstable kneecaps (patellar instability). Dr. Pace is currently the highest volume trochleoplasty surgeon in the country and he serves a clientele from all over the United States.  Dr. Pace is pioneering a technique called “retroarticular core decompression” for a condition called osteochondritis dissecans of the knee. In addition, Dr. Pace specializes in ACL reconstruction with the quadriceps tendon autograft and primary repair of select ACL tears, repair and reconstruction of multiligamentous injuries about the knee, meniscus repair, and transplantation, advanced cartilage repair procedures such as osteochondral allografting and autologous chondrocyte implantation (MACI), realignment procedures of the lower extremity (osteotomy), hip arthroscopy for labrum tears of the hip, surgical treatment of shoulder instability and a whole host of other sports-related injuries.

Dr. Pace is double board-certified in orthopaedic surgery and orthopaedic sports medicine by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. He is involved in several research projects and he publishes and lectures extensively to his peers. He is an Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine and is involved in resident and fellow education.  He is faculty for the prestigious University of Connecticut Orthopedic Sports Medicine Fellowship and he is also a team physician for Quinnipiac University.

On the subject of his educational background, Dr. Pace earned his undergraduate degree from his hometown Southern Utah University and his medical degree from the Boston University School of Medicine, graduating magna cum laude and being inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He then went on to complete his residency in orthopaedic surgery at the University of Washington where he received broad training in all aspects of orthopaedic surgery, including trauma training at the world-famous Harborview Medical Center. Next, he finished two fellowships – one in pediatric orthopaedics at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles/University of Southern California and the other in pediatric and adult sports medicine at Boston Children’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School.

Married with three kids and one dog, Dr. Pace enjoys reading, snowboarding, hiking, and traveling when not in his clinic or the operating room. He also volunteers as a den leader with his son’s Scout Pack.
