Dr. Thomas is an ophthalmologist who specializes in LASIK, corneal transplantation, and cataract surgery at Mattax Neu Prater Eye Center – the premier provider of advanced laser vision correction such as LASIK, cataract correction, and premium lens implants in Springfield, Missouri. Dr. Thomas is board-certified in ophthalmology by the American Board of Ophthalmology (ABO). The ABO is an independent, nonprofit organization responsible for certifying ophthalmologists (eye physicians and surgeons) in the United States.

Dr. Thomas is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS). FACS is a post-nominal title used to indicate that the surgeon’s education and training, professional qualifications, surgical competence, and ethical conduct have passed a rigorous evaluation, and have been found to be consistent with the high standards established and demanded by said college.

Through his service on various community boards, such as the American Diabetes Association and the Vision Rehab Center of the Ozarks, Dr. Thomas has helped raise awareness for eye disease in his community and helped those with serious eye disease gain access to resources to improve their quality of life. He has also volunteered to lead eye education labs at local middle schools and high schools to help inspire the next generation of Springfield youth to pursue scientific careers.

Dr. Thomas graduated from Drury University in Springfield before graduating from the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Medicine with his Doctor of Medicine degree. He then went on to complete a residency in ophthalmology, followed by a fellowship in cornea and external diseases of the eye at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.

Ophthalmology is a branch of medicine and surgery, which deals with the diagnosis and treatment of eye disorders. Ophthalmologists are experts in the diseases, functions and anatomy of the eye. They may provide routine care such as vision testing, as well as prescribe and fit eyeglasses or contact lenses. However, ophthalmologists are also surgeons. They repair traumatic injuries to the eye and perform cataract and corneal surgery. In his field, Dr. Thomas practices comprehensive ophthalmology, managing conditions such as diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, and glaucoma. He also provides a minimally invasive glaucoma treatment designed to reduce intraocular pressure.
