An exceptional bariatric surgeon, Dr. Redmann is affiliated with Surgical Specialists of Louisiana, tending to patients at their offices in Covington, Metairie, and Slidell. His clinical interests include the surgical treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), including Nissen fundoplication and hiatal hernia repair, and the LINX reflux management system. Gallbladder surgery, hemorrhoid surgery, and hernia repair are also part of his surgical repertoire.
With the Surgical Specialists of Louisiana, he has performed and assisted in thousands of bariatric procedures for surgical weight loss; and he sees patients for nonsurgical weight loss in the MyWeight clinic. Born in Metairie, Louisiana, Dr. Redmann graduated summa cum laude from Jesuit High School in New Orleans. His Bachelor of Arts degree in Latin is from The University of Texas at Austin, and his medical degree is from Louisiana State University in New Orleans.
After completing his residency in general surgery at LSU, he moved to Eunice, Louisiana, where he performed all aspects of General Surgery for the area. He served as Chief of Surgery and Chief of the Medical Staff at Acadian Medical Center in Eunice, and held the offices of Treasurer, Vice-President, and President of the St. Landry Parish Medical Society. Having lost his mother to lung cancer while he was living in Eunice, he felt compelled to move back to the Northshore with his wife, Dody, when his father was diagnosed with esophageal cancer.
Maintaining fellowship status, he is a Fellow of both the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons (FASMBS) and the American College of Surgeons (FACS), and is a Volunteer Site Surveyor for MBSAQIP. He also serves as the Chief of Medical Staff at Southern Surgical Hospital in Slidell, and has maintained quality healthcare for patients in the area.
Bariatric surgery (or weight loss surgery) includes a variety of procedures performed on people who are obese. Long-term weight loss through Standard of Care procedures (Roux en Y Bypass, Sleeve Gastrectomy, and Biliopancreatic Diversion with Duodenal Switch) is largely achieved by altering gut hormone levels that are responsible for hunger and satiety, thereby leading to a new hormonal weight set point. A doctor who specializes in this type of surgery is known as a bariatric surgeon.
