Dr. Jimmy furthered his education at the Western University of Health Sciences College of Optometry, where he earned his Doctor of Optometry Degree in 2013, serving as the inaugural class president.
His professional journey includes significant roles such as Chief Optometrist for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, alongside operating an independent optometry office in California from 2013 until his return to Hawaii in 2016. His commitment to the field is underscored by his active participation in professional organizations, including the American Optometric Association and the Hawaii Optometric Association.
Outside of his optometric practice, Dr. Jimmy is a passionate advocate for sports and youth development. He founded WUCO Athletics, LLC, the Menehune Sports Foundation, and Menehune Basketball Hawaii, fostering athletic opportunities for youth in the community. The Menehune Basketball program has successfully expanded from California back to Hawaii, featuring both men’s and women’s teams and promoting adult basketball leagues across Oahu.
In his personal life, Dr. Jimmy enjoys spending time with his three rescue dogs—WUCO, Nubblet, and Cookie Monster—and cherishes family moments, aspiring to become a basketball coach for his children, just as his father did for him. He is also dedicated to giving back to his community by sponsoring local events, providing sports equipment, and organizing seasonal celebrations for children.
