A board-certified ophthalmologist and cataract surgeon, Dr. Mondzelewski is the President, Founder, and Director of Cataract Surgery at Glaucoma – Cataract Consultants, Inc. He founded the practice in 1988 and expanded to three offices that serve the greater Pittsburgh area, the Mon Valley, and Westmoreland County. 

Providing care in the fields of cataract and glaucoma, Dr. Mondzelewski is one of the premier cataract surgeons in the region. He also continues to follow complex glaucoma cases requiring subspecialty medical and surgical care, being one of the first surgeons in the country to utilize current techniques in small incision, sutureless, patchless cataract surgery. 

Among his other titles, he serves as an Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He is on the medical staff at UPMC Eye Center, St. Clair Memorial Hospital, and Mon Valley Hospital. He is also on the consulting medical staff at Canonsburg General Hospital, Frick Hospital in Mt. Pleasant, and Highlands Hospital in Connellsville.

Originally from Ohio, Dr. Mondzelewski attended the University of Dayton and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics. He graduated magna cum laude and went on to achieve a Master of Science degree in Physics at Ohio State University in 1970. He was then employed at Bell Telephone Laboratories (now Lucent Technologies) for two years. 

In 1973, he attended The Ohio State School of Medicine and received his medical degree. His post-graduate training took him to the University of Virginia Hospital, Charlottesville, for a medical internship and subsequent employment as an emergency room physician at Lynchburg General Hospital. Dr. Mondzelewski’s residency in ophthalmology was performed at UPMC Eye Center, where he also completed a glaucoma fellowship in 1980.

Committed to providing advanced vision care, he is board-certified in ophthalmology by the American Board of Ophthalmology (ABO). The ABO is an independent, non-profit organization responsible for certifying ophthalmologists in the United States of America.

A fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, Dr. Mondzelewski is a member of the Alpha Sigma Tau Honorary Society, the Landacre Honorary Research Society, the Allegheny County Medical Society, the Pennsylvania Medical Society, the American Medical Association, the Pittsburgh Ophthalmological Society, and the Pennsylvania Ophthalmological Society.

Ophthalmology is a branch of medicine and surgery, which deals with the diagnosis and treatment of eye disorders. Ophthalmologists are experts in the diseases, functions, and anatomy of the eye. Ophthalmologists are also surgeons. They repair traumatic injuries to the eye and may perform cataract, glaucoma, and corneal surgery.
