James North, MD, a Pain Management Specialist and Anesthesiologist with Carolina’s Pain Institute
Get to know Pain Management Specialist and Anesthesiologist Dr. James North, who serves patients in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
Dr. North is a board-certified pain management specialist and anesthesiologist whose expertise include ketamine therapy, advanced interventional pain therapies, and neuromodulation, with a focus in complex spinal cord stimulation cases.
At present, he is in practice at Carolina’s Pain Institute in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Carolina’s Pain Institute is dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of chronic, acute, and cancer pain. It offers the latest advances in pharmacology, physiotherapy, and cognitive and interventional therapy, access to national clinical trials through the Center for Clinical Research, and support and educational resources through its partnership with PainPathways Magazine.
As an Assistant Professor at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Dr. North trains anesthesia residents and pain medicine fellows. He is also the Medical Director for the Center for Clinical Research, serving as primary investigator on dozens of pain research studies. He has been the Senior Medical Editor of PainPathways magazine since 2008.
In regards to his educational background, he earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Texas Tech University, graduating Summa Cum Laude. In 2000, he graduated from the University of Texas Medical School at Houston, where he achieved the distinction of AOA, the highest academic honor in medical school.
Thereafter, he did his initial training at the University of Hawaii, before going on to complete his residency in anesthesiology at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in 2004. A year later, he completed his fellowship in pain medicine at Wake Forest University and joined Carolina’s Pain Institute in August of 2005.
As for his many accomplishments, Dr. North serves on the Board of the Pain Society of the Carolinas and the Sceptor Pain Foundation. He is also a member of the World Institute of Pain and a lecturer on a variety of pain subjects, nationally and internationally.
Pain medicine is a branch of medicine employing an interdisciplinary approach for easing the suffering and improving the quality of life of those living with chronic pain.
