Jason Williams, MD, a Radiologist & Oncologist with Williams Cancer Institute

Get to know Radiologist & Oncologist Dr. Jason Williams, who serves patients in California.

A versatile and accomplished professional, Dr. Williams holds an array of esteemed titles. He is a medical doctor, a board-certified radiologist, an image-guided oncologist, a dedicated researcher, and a respected professor.

One of the pioneers of immunotherapy, Dr. Williams specializes in intra-tumoral interventions. He performed the world’s first ablation procedure and implemented an intra-tumoral injection of a specific combination of immunotherapy agents, thus leveraging the actual process of ablation as an immunotherapy agent itself. Since then, he has performed thousands of procedures, many of them “first in human” in multiple areas of ablation and cryoablation therapies.

As the Director of Interventional Oncology and Immunotherapy at the Williams Cancer Institute, Dr. Williams has been advancing the use of intratumoral immunotherapy. He is also an Adjunct Professor at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, where he is helping to further cutting-edge research.

Furthermore, he is actively involved in private research combining numerous different immunotherapy agents for image-guided intratumoral injection covering almost all cancer types.

A 2000 graduate of LSU School of Medicine in Shreveport, Dr. Williams went on to complete his internship in internal medicine and residency in radiology at The University of South Alabama until 2007, where he was selected for the RSNA Research Fellow Award. Additionally, he earned expertise in interventional oncology for non-vascular intervention from the University of Mississippi Medical Center in 2004.

Board-certified in diagnostic radiology, he is a Diplomate of the American Board of Radiology (ABR). The ABR is an independent, not-for-profit professional association with headquarters in Tucson, Arizona.

In the early 2000s, Dr. Williams embarked on a journey into ablation at his university, marking the initial steps towards creating something remarkable. Recognizing the need for an institute that focused on image-guided cancer treatment, the idea began to take shape, but the path was fraught with challenges. Obtaining approval and insurance coverage proved difficult, and hospitals initially showed resistance.

Nonetheless, in 2014, the vision started to materialize, with procedures primarily carried out in the United States, specifically in Florida, Atlanta, and later, Southern California. However, the Institute’s aspirations extended beyond borders, leading them to relocate to Mexico and eventually settle in Mexico City.

Initially known as Image Guided Cancer Specialist, the institute was in a transformative phase when Dr. Williams was simultaneously working on his book, “The Immunotherapy Revolution.” As the Institute continued to evolve, it adopted the name Williams Cancer Institute, reflecting his vision and dedication to cancer treatment innovation.

Presently, Dr. Williams has established three facilities between Mexico and the United States, equipped with an exceptional team, ready to make a difference in the lives of cancer patients.

Driven by a profound commitment, the Institute strives for further growth and expansion, aiming to establish additional facilities worldwide. The ultimate goal remains steadfast: to realize Dr. Williams’ dream of making cancer a distant memory of the past, paving the way for a future where cancer is no longer a daunting threat to humanity.

Radiology refers to the field of medicine that uses non-invasive imaging scans to diagnose a patient. A radiologist is a physician who uses imaging methodologies to diagnose and manage patients and provide therapeutic options.

Oncology is a branch of medicine that deals with the study, treatment, diagnosis, and prevention of tumors. A medical professional who practices oncology is an oncologist. They can treat cancer using chemotherapy as well as other medications like immunotherapy and targeted therapy.

Happily married, Dr. Williams and his wife, Stefanya Williams, live between Fort Lauderdale and Mexico City.
