Being a board-certified anesthesiologist and pain management specialist, Dr. Kiokemeister has served as the President of Ambulatory Anesthesia of Chicago (AAOC) in Illinois since 1999.

“AAOC is a model for surgery center anesthesia: we provide not only the highest quality anesthesia services but also deliver the most efficient operation of the surgery unit. Our focus on maximizing quality and efficiency improves the bottom line of the center and lead to the success of both parties. From the clinical perspective, we know that the success of outpatient surgery depends on effective anesthesia during a procedure, coupled with quick, nausea-free recovery. We have, over the years, through the development of outcomes-based protocols, optimized the anesthesia we provide to achieve these key goals” as stated on their website.

In his leadership role, Dr. Kiokemeister oversees clinical operations for AAOC and evaluates its clinical efficacy and quality of care. On a daily basis, he manages AAOC’s operations and scheduling, as well as directs a team of physicians and nurse anesthetists.

With over two decades of practice experience, he has also served as the Medical Director of 900 N Michigan Surgical Center in Chicago since its establishment in 1999. The 900 North Michigan Surgical Center is a state-of-the-art Joint Commission-accredited, Medicare-certified multi-specialty surgery center whose mission is to provide the highest standard of outpatient surgical care in the most advanced technical and professional environment available. The Center currently provides peri-operative care to ambulatory adult, geriatric, and pediatric patients.

What’s more, the doctor can be found on staff at Tinley Woods Surgery Center in Tinley Park, Illinois. As part of the Advocate Medical Campus-Southwest, Tinley Woods Surgery Center is owned and managed as a joint venture between Advocate and surgeon investors. Anesthesia services are provided by anesthesiologists affiliated with Advocate Christ Hospital and Medical Center working as independent contractors.

In 1991, Dr. Kiokemeister earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine in Downers Grove, Illinois. He then went on to complete his residency in anesthesiology at the McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, followed by additional training in pain management. Following his education, the doctor became board-certified through the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA), whose mission is to advance the highest standards of the practice of anesthesiology. As the certifying body for anesthesiologists since 1938, the ABA is committed to partnering with physicians to advance lifelong learning and exceptional patient care.

Anesthesiology is the medical specialty concerned with the total perioperative care of patients before, during, and after surgery. It encompasses anesthesia, intensive care medicine, critical emergency medicine, and pain medicine. Anesthesiologists have the primary responsibility of monitoring the patient’s vital signs during surgery. In addition to basic measurements such as pulse, blood pressure and temperature, anesthesiologists also measure the patient’s respiration.

Pain medicine is a medical specialty that focuses on the evaluation, treatment, and prevention of pain. A pain management specialist is a physician with special training in evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of all different types of pain. Generally, pain management that is offered at a pain clinic includes a combination of therapies, including medications, physical therapy, and nerve blocks. In addition, massage therapy is often an effective treatment for pain relief, swelling, and stress.
