Born and raised in an agricultural province of the Philippines, Dr. Cala went to high school in the Immaculate Conception Child Development Center and attended the University of the Philippines Manila College of Dentistry for a couple of years, before her family moved to West Texas in 2013. When they got to Pecos, they were met with hospitality and kindness from the community.
Since then, she knew she wanted to come back to West Texas after she graduated from dental school to serve her community. She graduated summa cum laude with three Associate degrees from Odessa College and her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of Texas – Permian Basin in 2017. Right after, she attended Texas A&M College of Dentistry where she received her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree and learned how to help people have a healthier smile and lifestyle in general.
While in school, Dr. Cala spent her free time volunteering in community centers, community clinics, the animal shelter, as well as leading the multicultural volunteering organization at the school. She also enjoys traveling to small towns, sewing projects, and gardening.
Dentistry, also known as Dental and Oral Medicine, is a branch of medicine that consists of the study, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of diseases, disorders, and conditions of the oral cavity. Dentists diagnose and treat dental issues and help patients develop better oral hygiene regimens. They clean teeth, correct bite issues, perform surgeries and extractions, and perform other duties to ensure that the teeth and mouth are healthy.
