Jeanne Nicholson, ARNP, PMHNP-BC, a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with Nicholson Psychiatry, PLLC

Get to know Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, Jeanne Nicholson Wadsworth, who serves patients in Bellevue, Washington.

Jeanne is a board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner currently serving patients at her private practice – Nicholson Psychiatry, PLLC – in Bellevue, Washington. Specializing in psychiatric medication management, her areas of clinical expertise include depression, anxiety, PTSD, and ADHD.

Living on the Mississippi gulf coast in the aftermath of hurricane Katrina in 2005, she witnessed the strength of people working together to rebuild their devastated communities, exemplifying the notion of “the sum is greater than its parts”.

This notion is the backbone of her practice theory. Using the team approach allows clients, caregivers, and other healthcare providers to collaborate and support shared treatment goals. She likewise observed how traumatic experiences can leave lasting negative effects on daily functioning at home, work, school, and in personal relationships if not recognized and treated.

Being a breast cancer survivor, Jeanne appreciates how distressing the diagnosis of a major illness can be on the person and on their families. One in four people diagnosed with a major illness will develop clinical depression. She hopes to normalize the multitude of emotions that one can feel when such a diagnosis is made. Treatment with medications may be needed, even if just temporarily to improve quality of life.

Her training has allowed her to do comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, diagnose, and to prescribe medications across the lifespan. She considers working together as a team, to tailor a treatment plan for every unique individual, pivotal in the success of treatment goals. She works toward reducing the stigma related to mental illness so more people will seek help.

With a broad educational background, Jeanne graduated with her Associate Degree in Nursing from Gulf Coast Community College in 2007. Upon graduating, she started her career as a registered nurse at the Memorial Hospital at Gulfport. Through her experiences as a registered nurse, she became aware of the direct association between the mind, body, soul, and mental health/psychiatry. This encouraged her to further her education to become a psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner.

Subsequently, she went on to complete her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from the University of Mississippi Medical Center in 2013, and her Master of Science in Nursing degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2018. She did her psychiatric residency at the Veterans Health Administration in Birmingham, Alabama, working with veterans with mood and anxiety disorders.

Passionate about her profession, she holds certifications in Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner – Adult/Adolescent, and Trauma Nursing Core Course Provider.

In order to stay up to date in the field of medicine, Jeanne remains an active member with the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, the American Nurses Association, the American Psychiatric Nurses Association, and the Puget Sound Nurse Practitioners Association.

A Board-Certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) is an advanced practice nurse that holds board certification and seeks to improve mental health care and the overall health status of communities.

On a more personal note, she attributes her success to sheer determination and perseverance. She comes from a family of medical professionals who have helped guide her in her career.
