Get to know Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Jeff D. Headrick, who serves patients in Lubbock, Texas.

A board-certified orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Headrick is affiliated with The Center for Orthopedic Surgery in Lubbock, Texas. He is fellowship-trained in adult hip and knee replacement surgery as well as the latest techniques for the young arthritic patient. He also has extensive experience in shoulder and knee arthroscopy, ACL reconstruction and other sports medicine techniques.

In 2011, the doctor introduced and performed the first Direct Anterior Approach to hip replacement in Lubbock, which is a minimally invasive approach that provides for a quicker recovery with excellent pain relief. He also pioneered the first use of robotics in orthopedic surgery in Lubbock in 2014.

A native of Sweetener, Texas, Dr. Headrick joined The Center for Orthopedic Surgery after serving twenty years in the United States Navy. He graduated from the US Naval Academy with a Bachelor of Science degree in Ocean Engineering.  He was a nuclear engineer officer in the submarine service for five years.

After graduation from Texas Tech Medical School, he completed his internship at Balboa Naval Hospital, and completed the Phoenix Orthopedic Residency Program. He served as an orthopedic surgeon with the US Marines at Camp Lejeune, overseas at the US Naval Hospital Guam, at US Naval Hospital Portsmouth, and aboard hospital ship USNS Comfort during wartime.

Finally, Dr. Headrick completed advanced studies in reconstructive joint replacement surgery as an Otto E. Aufranc Fellow at the highly acclaimed New England Baptist Hospital. The yearlong fellowship included state of the art early intervention techniques for arthritis in association with Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He utilizes the latest technology with regard to surgical technique and implants.

As a testament of his continued education, the doctor is board-certified in orthopedic surgery and sports medicine by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery (ABOS). The ABOS is an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopedic residents and surgeons as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopedic surgeons.

Orthopedic surgery is the branch of surgery concerned with conditions involving the musculoskeletal system. Orthopedic surgeons use both surgical and non-surgical means to treat musculoskeletal trauma, spine diseases, sports injuries, degenerative diseases, infections, tumors, and congenital disorders.

Among his most notable achievements, Dr. Headrick has been the recipient of the Compassionate Doctor Recognition (2018, 2016, 2015), Patients’ Choice Award (2018, 2016), On-Time Doctor Award (2018).
