Safford Clinic Family Nurse Practitioner Receives AAHIVS Credential to Enhance Services for Underserved Communities

Safford, Arizona – Canyonlands Healthcare is proud to announce that Jeffrey Kiser, MSN, APRN, FNP-C, AAHIVS, has earned the invaluable HIV Specialist™ credential from the American Academy of HIV Medicine. As a Certified Family Nurse Practitioner at the Safford Clinic, Kiser’s new qualification represents a significant advancement in the provision of specialized HIV care for rural communities in Arizona and Nevada.

Born and raised in Arizona, Kiser demonstrated academic excellence early on, graduating as Valedictorian from Round Valley High School in 2007. He furthered his education at the University of Arizona, earning a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences Degree in Physiology and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Religious Studies, both with Summa Cum Laude honors in 2011. Following his time as a first-grade teacher in China and as a Pharmacy Technician in Tempe, Kiser pursued a Master of Science in Nursing Degree from Yale School of Nursing, focusing on Family Nurse Practitioner studies with a Global Health Concentration and being inducted into Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. While in nursing school, he also served as the Pharmacy Director and Senior Clinical Team Member of the HAVEN student-run free clinic and worked as a research assistant at Yale Cardiovascular Medicine.

Kiser’s clinical journey has been dedicated to serving rural, underserved communities through Federally Qualified Health Centers. His experience includes working as a registered nurse in medically observed withdrawal programs for patients with substance use disorders in Connecticut and as a primary care FNP in Bullhead City, Arizona. Since April 2023, Kiser has been providing compassionate care at Canyonlands Healthcare in Safford, focusing on holistic patient outcomes.

The recent acquisition of the AAHIVS credential underscores Kiser’s commitment to excellence in HIV care. This certification enhances his ability to deliver comprehensive HIV treatment and prevention services, particularly in remote areas where access to specialized healthcare providers is limited. “This credential represents a deeper commitment to improving the quality of care for our patients living with HIV and expanding access to rural communities across Arizona and Nevada,” said Kiser. “At Canyonlands Healthcare, we work hard to create a welcoming and supportive environment for everyone, and this certification further enables us to continue offering exceptional care to our patients.”

To obtain the AAHIVS credential, candidates must demonstrate both theoretical knowledge and practical experience in HIV care, reflecting Kiser’s dedication to professional growth and patient advocacy. “All patients—regardless of background—should receive the best possible outcomes in managing their HIV treatment,” he emphasized.

In addition to his clinical responsibilities, Kiser actively contributes to community engagement as the Tourism Committee Chair on the Graham County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and as a volunteer judge for FFA and FBLA high school competitions. He also serves as a monthly guest on Voice of the Valley KATO 1230 AM, where he discusses prevalent health topics and promotes awareness about health care access.

With a focus on whole-person care and interprofessional collaboration, Jeffrey Kiser is committed to overcoming barriers to healthcare access and positively impacting the communities he serves. His energetic approach as a cultural navigator aims to enhance public health through service, dialogue, and education.
