Get to know Clinical Research Specialist Dr. Jeffrey W. Sherman.

An experienced clinical research and pharmaceutical development specialist, Dr. Sherman was the Chief Medical Officer now Emeritus at Horizon Therapeutics now Amgen (Rare Disease) located in Deerfield, Illinois. 

Educated in the United States, he earned his bachelor’s degree in biology from Lake Forest College before embarking on his medical voyage at the Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science/The Chicago Medical School, where he obtained his medical degree. 

Following this, Dr. Sherman undertook rigorous training, completing an internship and residency in internal medicine at Northwestern University, where his exceptional skills led him to serve as Chief Resident. Further enhancing his expertise, he pursued fellowship training in infectious diseases at the University of California-San Francisco (UCSF), as well as contributing to research endeavors as a research associate at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute at UCSF, specializing in allergy and immunology.

Recognized as a Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP), the doctor is board-certified in internal medicine and infectious diseases by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

With over 35 years of invaluable experience in the field, he has left an indelible mark on the industry landscape, having traversed through various prominent roles in renowned pharmaceutical companies such as IDM Pharma, Takeda Global Research and Development, NeoPharm, Searle/Pharmacia, and Squibb/Bristol-Myers Squibb. His influence spans across various advisory boards and committees, exemplified by his past board of directors chair of the Drug Information Association (DIA) and membership on the Board of Directors. Noteworthy is his pivotal role in steering the DIA Annual Meeting as chairperson and his recognition with an Outstanding Service Award, further solidifying his reputation as an exemplary leader in the field. 

Having served as a liaison to the FDA Clinical Trial Transformation Initiative (CTTI) Steering Committee and on the Board of Advisors of the Center for Information and Study on Clinical Research Participation (CISCRP), Dr. Sherman has actively contributedHa to shaping policy and advancing clinical research methodologies.

Furthermore, his philanthropic endeavors underscore his commitment to addressing rare diseases, evident through his involvement with the Global Genes Medical and Scientific Advisory Board and his engagement with the National Organization for Rare Diseases (NORD) and the European Organization for Rare Diseases (EURORDIS).
