Radiation oncology is a medical specialty that involves the controlled use of radiation to treat cancer either to cure, or to reduce pain and other symptoms caused by cancer. Radiation therapy (also called radiotherapy) is the term used to describe the actual treatment delivered by the radiation oncology team. A radiation oncologist is a specialist physician who uses ionizing radiation (such as megavoltage X-rays or radionuclides) in the treatment of cancer. Radiation oncology is one of the three primary specialties, the other two being surgical and medical oncology, involved in the treatment of cancer.

As a leader in his specialty, Dr. Landry has published extensively on the subject of IMRT, has been invited to speak numerous times at both medical and academic conferences, and has performed on-site training in over forty radiation oncology centers across the country and overseas. In 2005, he was a chief editor for a chapter on the treatment of pancreatic cancer through IMRT in the textbook Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy: A Clinical Perspective.

Among his various awards and honors, Dr. Landry has been named: America’s Top Doctors – Atlanta Magazine (1995, 1997-1998, 2000-2014, 2016), America’s Top Doctors – Ladies Home Journal (2002), and America’s Top Doctors – Redbook Magazine (2001).
