Get to know Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Jerome J. Perra, who serves patients in Minnesota.
Dr. Perra is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in shoulder, hip, and knee care, minimally invasive surgery, arthroscopic surgery, total joint replacement, and sports medicine. He is in practice with Summit Orthopedics, operating out of the offices in Hastings and Eagan, Minnesota.
“My goal is always to return the patient to his or her highest level of function, and to individualize post-operative and rehabilitation expectations” expressed Dr. Perra on his approach to care.
His acclaimed career began after he completed his undergraduate studies at St. John’s University — Collegeville. He then went on to earn his medical degree from the University of Minnesota Medical School in 1985, after which he performed his internship and residency in orthopedic surgery at Madigan Army Medical Center.
With over three decades of experience, Dr. Perra is board-certified in orthopedic surgery by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery (ABOS). The ABOS is an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopedic residents and surgeons as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopedic surgeons.
Dedicated to surgical excellence, Dr. Perra is affiliated with United Hospital (Saint Paul) and United Hospital – Hastings Regina Campus.
Moreover, he is an active member of the Society of Military Orthopedic Surgeons, the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the Blue River Trauma Society, and the Iowa Orthopedic Society.
Orthopedic surgery is the branch of surgery concerned with conditions involving the musculoskeletal system. Orthopedic surgeons use both surgical and non-surgical means to treat musculoskeletal trauma, spine diseases, sports injuries, degenerative diseases, infections, tumors, and congenital disorders.
Among his global volunteer work, Dr. Perra has been volunteering his surgical skills in Honduras at One World Surgery/Holy Family Surgery Center since 2006. He also volunteered in Haiti with other Summit Orthopedic doctors following the January 2010 earthquake.
Outside of practicing medicine, Dr. Perra enjoys sailing and downhill skiing. He is a Boy Scout leader.
