A seasoned pathologist, Dr. Luo is the Director of the High Throughput Genome Center within the Department of Pathology at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He also serves as Professor of Pathology, UPMC Endowed Chair of Molecular Carcinogenesis, and member of the Divisions of Experimental Pathology, Molecular and Cellular Pathology, and Anatomic Molecular Pathology.

Back in 1982, Dr. Luo graduated with his medical degree from the Guangzhou Medical College. After relocating to the United States, he received his Doctor of Philosophy degree (PhD) in Pharmacology from the University of Maryland in 1991, and completed his post-doctoral fellowship in Cancer Biology at the Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons in 1994. He then went on to complete his residency in anatomic & clinical pathology at the Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center in 1998.
With an unwavering commitment to his specialty, the doctor is board-certified in anatomic & clinical pathology by the American Board of Pathology. Its mission is to serve the public and advance the profession of pathology by setting certification standards and promoting lifelong competency of pathologists.
An avid researcher, his research interests involve identifying new tumor suppressor genes and tumor markers in several human malignancies such as prostate cancer, hepatocellular carcinoma, etc.
