Specializing in general surgery, Dr. Chabot is one of the country’s most highly rated doctors. With more than 30 years of experience in the medical field, he currently serves as the Executive Director of the Pancreas Center at New York-Presbyterian-Columbia University Medical Center in New York, New York. The Pancreas Center is led by a highly experienced team of physicians, nurses, researchers, social workers, and more. Having dedicated his career with a resolute focus on the prevention, treatment, and cure for pancreatic cancer, Dr. Chabot also serves as the Chief of GI/Endocrine Surgery at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, the David V. Habif Professor of Surgery at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, as well as the Vice President of ColumbiaDoctors. He is in a well-grounded position to respond to the challenges associated with rapid innovation and advancing technology.

In 1983, he earned his medical degree from the Geisel School of Medicine in Hanover, New Hampshire. He then went on to complete his internship and residency at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York, followed by his fellowship at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in New Hampshire. 

A Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, he is board-certified through the American Board of Surgery, an independent, non-profit organization founded for the purpose of certifying surgeons who have met a defined standard of education, training, and knowledge. 

Among the doctor’s numerous honors, he has received the Blakemore Award for Surgical Research in 1990, the Thomas C. King Resident Teaching Award in 1998, the Special Recognition Award by NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital in 2004, the Physician of the Year Award by the Nursing Service of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital in 2008, and many more. He has also researched and published numerous articles and abstracts on the surgical treatment of pancreatic, parathyroid, thyroid, and liver disease, as well as peritoneal mesothelioma.

General surgery is a surgical specialty that focuses on abdominal contents including the esophagus, stomach, small bowel, colon, liver, pancreas, gallbladder, appendix and bile ducts, and often the thyroid gland. A general surgeon performs a wide range of abdominal surgeries for many forms of intestinal and abdominal wall neoplasms, gallbladder disease, gastric and pancreatic disease. They follow the patient through critical care and surgical recovery all the way to outpatient care. 

As a treatment leader for rare peritoneal mesothelioma, Dr. Chabot provides patient care while conducting further research on disease diagnosis and management. His research also extends to pancreatic cancer and other illnesses and surgical treatments. He received a government research grant and has served as the Principal Investigator for the grant titled, “Pancreatic Supplement for Cancer Center Grant.”

There are few surgeons who invest their time and energy on rare diseases. However, the benefits for real people struggling with these diseases are huge. Dr. Chabot has helped many struggling with peritoneal mesothelioma by specializing in this type of cancer and conducting research.
