A skilled ophthalmologist, Dr. Galanis serves the community of St. Louis, Missouri at his private practice, Galanis Cataract & Laser Eye Center. He is committed to using state of the art technology and has over 30 years of surgical expertise to help improve the vision of his patients. He specializes in refractive eye surgery including: laser cataract surgery, state-of-the-art lens implants for cataract surgery using multifocal lens implants, and custom bladeless LASIK.
Having done over 35,000 procedures, he is also a fellowship-trained glaucoma specialist, performing glaucoma procedures such as glaucoma laser treatment, and glaucoma filtering surgery.
In regards to his educational background, Dr. Galanis received his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Washington University in 1980. During that time he was elected to the Tau Beta Phi Engineering Honorary Society and the Eta Kappa Nu Electrical Engineering Honorary Society. He earned his medical degree from the St. Louis University School of Medicine in 1984.
Subsequently, he completed an internship at St. John’s Mercy Medical Center in 1985, and completed his residency in ophthalmology at Bethesda Eye Institute, St. Louis University, where he served as Chief Resident. He then completed a fellowship in glaucoma at the prestigious Estelle Doheny Eye Institute, University of Southern California, and returned home to St. Louis as an Assistant Professor at St. Louis University Eye Institute.
Following his training, the doctor attained board certification in ophthalmology through American Board of Ophthalmology (ABO). The ABO is an independent, non-profit organization responsible for certifying ophthalmologists in the United States of America.
Recognized as a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Dr. Galanis is an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the St. Louis Ophthalmological Society, and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.
Ophthalmology is a branch of medicine and surgery, which deals with the diagnosis and treatment of eye disorders. Ophthalmologists are experts in the diseases, functions, and anatomy of the eye. Ophthalmologists are also surgeons. They repair traumatic injuries to the eye and may perform cataract, glaucoma, and corneal surgery.
In 2021, Dr. Galanis was the recipient of the Top Doctor Award by Missouri Life Magazine.
