All ophthalmologists are educated and trained in the general area of the cornea; however, only a few become cornea specialists. And, very rarely does one become respected with the merit, honor, and accomplishments of the distinguished Dr. Goosey.

These days, he is known as one of America’s leading ophthalmologists and a premier LASIK eye surgeon in Houston, having performed tens of thousands of operations including Lasik, cataract surgery, and corneal transplants – to name a few. He uses the very latest and most advanced laser technologies to perform various surgeries, including the Allegretto Wave® Laser, with its Perfect Plus technology.

His approach to patient care brings his professionalism to a personal level, as he works directly with each patient to ensure that each is fully educated on the ins and outs of the LASIK procedure, cataract surgery, vision correction, or various procedures that pertain to corneal care. His goal is to successfully diagnose and treat each eye condition with the purpose to restore, preserve, or enhance the eye sight of every individual.

Regarded worldwide as a highly skilled eye surgeon, Dr. Goosey’s extensive training and education are part of the reason why he is so celebrated and deserving of such honor. After graduating from high school in Los Angeles, he attended the University of South Carolina and then went on to earn his medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina. Upon graduation, he completed his fellowship at the National Institute of Health in Bethesda, Maryland; extensively studying cataract formation and medical treatment for the eyes. Dr. Goosey also went on to complete a three-year residency within the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Texas in Houston, and then completed an additional fellowship at the Louisiana State University Eye Center. There, he received sub-specialty training in corneal and external eye disease.

In 1993, he began studying the use of lasers for the correction of nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia), and astigmatism. Now, he trains and speaks around the world, and successfully performs LASIK eye surgeries for thousands of patients each year.

In addition to his extensive studies, Dr. Goosey has taught as a Clinical Assistant Professor within the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Texas Health Science Center, and as an Adjunct Professor at the College of Optometry, University of Houston.

Always working with new treatments and technologies in medicine, he is currently conducting clinical studies on the following: dye eye, cataract, and blepharitis.

Ophthalmology is a branch of medicine and surgery, which deals with the diagnosis and treatment of eye disorders. Ophthalmologists are experts in the diseases, functions, and anatomy of the eye. They may provide routine care such as vision testing, as well as prescribe and fit eyeglasses or contact lenses. However, ophthalmologists are also surgeons. They repair traumatic injuries to the eye and perform cataract, glaucoma, and corneal surgery.

In recent years, Dr. Goosey has presented his work on corneal transplantation and refractive surgery, at the World Cornea Congress in Washington, D.C.; the European Refractive Society in Lisbon, Portugal; the American Academy of Ophthalmology in Chicago, Illinois; and the Pan American Ophthalmology Congress in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Even more, he has written numerous medical textbook chapters on innovations in corneal transplantation that have proven to be vital resources for the training of resident ophthalmic surgeons and ophthalmic fellows.

An internationally known and respected leader in corneal and refractive eye surgery, Dr. Goosey incorporates all the knowledge of optometry and ophthalmology with enhanced corneal knowledge, surgical experience, and the latest in innovative technology. He has been named as one of the Best Doctors of Houston by Inside Houston Magazine, named as one of the Texas Super Doctors by Texas Monthly Magazine, voted one of Houston’s best Doctors for 2010 by Houston’s H Magazine, named as one of America’s Top Ophthalmologists in 2017, and received the Super Doctors Award for 11 consecutive years.
