In practice since 1977, Dr. Gordon is an accomplished cardiologist whose goal is to help cardiac patients feel better and live longer. He feels fortunate to be working with the remarkable new tools available to heal complex illness in patients at San Diego Cardiac Center with offices in San Diego, California.
The San Diego Cardiac Center provides a synergistic approach to cardiology by offering prevention, diagnosis, intervention, and treatment. It is the only medical group in San Diego County covering all aspects of cardiac care ranging from dietary management to heart transplant management. Each of the doctors is at the forefront of industry breakthroughs and brings to the group a specific area of expertise.
In a professional manner, Dr. Gordon has served as Chief of the Cardiology Subsection at Sharp Memorial Hospital, Vice-Chair of the Internal Medicine Supervisory Committee at Sharp Memorial Hospital, Board Member (former President) of the San Diego chapter of the American Heart Association, and he is Director of the Annual Maui Cardiovascular Symposium, now in it’s 20th year.
Among his diverse affiliations with professional organizations, he is a member of the American College of Physicians and American Heart Association. He has severed as President of the California chapter of the American College of Cardiology, Governor of the Southern California Chapter, and is a member of the California Medical Association, and the San Diego County Medical Society.
On the subject of his educational background, Dr. Gordon obtained his medical degree from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine at Chapel Hill. He completed his internship and his residency in internal medicine at the University of Colorado Medical Center, followed by cardiology and interventional fellowships at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School.
“When I first decided to do a cardiology fellowship, I planned to become a physician, scientist, and teacher. I was fascinated by cardiovascular physical diagnosis, physiology, and molecular biology. As a practicing cardiologist, I have enjoyed managing complex coronary artery disease and peripheral vascular disease” as stated by the doctor.
A Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC), he is board-certified in cardiovascular disease by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.
Dr. Gordon’s special areas of study include interventional cardiology and Kawasaki Disease. He is the clinical director of the San Diego Adult Kawasaki Disease Collaborative Study at UCSD and Sharp Memorial Hospital. Dr. Gordon is an invited speaker at international meetings and has multiple original publications regarding management of Kawasaki Disease in adults. Previous studies include participation in the ABSORB trial which investigated a revolutionary coronary stent that completely dissolves over time (Principal Investigator); Distal Protection for Carotid and SVG Stenting; and Novel Pharmacologic Therapies for Acute Coronary Syndrome and Congestive Heart Failure.
Cardiology is a branch of medicine that deals with the disorders of the heart, as well as the circulatory system. The field includes medical diagnosis and treatment of congenital heart defects, coronary artery disease, heart failure, valvular heart disease, and electrophysiology. Cardiologists are doctors who diagnose, assess, and treat patients with diseases and defects of the heart and blood vessels (the cardiovascular system).
An authority in his field, Dr. Gordon was the recipient of the Research Fellowship Award and the Individual National Research Award from the National Institutes of Health, among others.
