When it comes to conceiving a baby, Dr. Zhang’s experience successfully resolving fertility issues has made him a leading reproductive endocrinologist, both within the United States and internationally. He is the Founder of New Hope Fertility Center in New York City where he has served as the Medical Director since opening in 2004 and oversaw the expanding fertility network internationally to China, Russia, and Mexico.

A true pioneer in the area of minimally invasive (Natural Cycle and Mini-IVF™) fertility care, he is an active researcher and medical technology developer. He has been behind several notable achievements in the area of assisted reproductive technology (ART), including the birth of a child by a 49 year-old using her own eggs, helping to restore a young woman’s fertility through a recent ovarian tissue transplant surgery in February of 2012, and being named one of New York’s Top Doctors.
Educated in China, Dr. Zhang graduated with his medical degree from Zhejiang University School of Medicine, and subsequently received his Master’s degree at Birmingham University in the UK. Between 1991 and 1993, he worked as a postdoctoral scholar at Georgetown University in the United States. From 1993 to 1997, he coordinated a Rockefeller Foundation research programme of Georgetown University with Peking University.
Thereafter, he completed his residency in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the New York University Grossman School of Medicine in 1997. After studying and researching the biology of mammalian reproduction and human embryology for nearly ten years, he became the first Fellow in the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility of New York University Grossman School of Medicine in 2001.
A member of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, he is board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology & reproductive endocrinology and infertility by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG). The mission of the ABOG is to define specialty standards, certify obstetricians and gynecologists, and facilitate continuous learning to advance knowledge, practice, and professionalism in women’s health.
As a renowned innovator in the modern approach to reproductive medicine, Dr. Zhang has established some of today’s most groundbreaking infertility solutions. He is currently one of a handful of reproductive endocrinologists in the United States to hold a PhD in embryology while also being certified as a High Complexity Lab Director.
Obstetrics and gynecology (OB-GYN) is the medical specialty that encompasses the two subspecialties of obstetrics (covering pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period) and gynecology (covering the health of the female reproductive system – vagina, uterus, ovaries, and breasts). An obstetrician-gynecologist specializes in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases and disorders that affect women, such as breast cancer, cervical cancer, and menopause. Additionally, they work with expecting mothers throughout their pregnancies, during childbirth, and into postpartum.
Among Dr. Zhang’s most notable achievements include: British Medical Research Council Research Grant (1989-1990); China-Cornell Fellowship sponsored by Rockefeller Foundation (1993-1997); Winner of the General Prize Paper, the American Society of Reproductive Medicine Annual Meeting; title: In vitro maturation of human preovulatory oocytes following germinal vesicle transfer (1997); Winner of the first place poster, the American Society of Reproductive Medicine Annual Meeting, 1997; title: Electrical activation and in vitro development of Human oocytes which failed fertilization following intracytoplasmic sperm injection (1997); Winner of the best resident research project, Department of OB/Gyn, New York University Medical Center (2001); ASRM/Organon Research Award to study on “Mitochondrial DNA segregations following nuclear transfer in mouse oocytes”; $50,000 for two years TOP 10 of New York (2002-2004); Resolve Hope Award for Achievement (2013); Top Fertility Clinic (2015-2017); Nature’s Ten- Ten people that mattered in 2016 (2016); Busiest IVF Clinics- Forbes (2016); and Foreign Policy- Global Thinkers Award Nominee (2016).
