Dr. Saxe is a general surgeon who is affiliated with St. Vincent Primary Care Center located in Indiana. Dr. Saxe earned his medical degree from Wayne State School of Medicine in Detroit, Michigan in 1985. He then went on to complete his residency in general surgery and his fellowship in trauma surgery at Wayne State. In addition to his extensive medical education, Dr. Saxe holds a master’s degree in religion from Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia.

Dr. Saxe was previously the Director of Trauma and Critical Care at Sinai-Grace Hospital, a Professor of Surgery at Wayne State University, as well as a Professor of Surgery and the Director of Surgical Research at Wright State University. At Wright State University, he also held other leadership positions, including Associate Program Director and Interim Director of the Surgical Critical Care Fellowship. 

Dr. Saxe is board-certified in both general surgery and surgical critical care by the American Board of Surgery (ABS). The ABS is an independent, nonprofit organization founded in 1937 to provide board certification to individuals who have met a defined standard of education, training, and knowledge in the field of surgery.

Dr. Saxe is a member of the American College of Surgeons and the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons. He has more than 50 publications to his name. As a member of the Naab Road Surgical Group, Dr. Saxe will lead and coordinate research efforts moving forward as St. Vincent Indianapolis pursues verification as a Level I Trauma Center.

General surgery is a surgical specialty that focuses on abdominal contents including esophagus, stomach, small bowel, colon, liver, pancreas, gallbladder, appendix and bile ducts, and often the thyroid gland. A general surgeon, like Dr. Saxe, performs a wide range of abdominal surgeries for many forms of intestinal and abdominal wall neoplasms, gallbladder disease, gastric and pancreatic disease. They follow the patient through critical care and surgical recovery all the way to outpatient care.
