“Specifically, I play a large role in the medical education of medical students, residents, and fellow education specifically in cardiothoracic anesthesiology. I also have a strong interest in cardiac anesthesiology practiced outside the operating room, such as structural heart, the electrophysiology suite, and the catheterization lab. Furthermore, in addition to a strong interest in traditional intraoperative transesophageal echocardiography, I am also interested in the use of surface ultrasound of the heart and lungs in the operating room arena” expressed the doctor.
In regards to his educational background, Dr. Sanders obtained his medical degree from Drexel University College of Medicine in 2008. He then went on to complete his internship in internal medicine at New York Hospital Medical Center of Queens in 2009. This was followed by a residency in anesthesiology and a fellowship in cardiovascular anesthesiology at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 2012 and 2013, respectively.
A member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, he is board-certified in anesthesiology by the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA), whose mission is to advance the highest standards of the practice of anesthesiology. As the certifying body for anesthesiologists since 1938, the ABA is committed to partnering with physicians to advance lifelong learning and exceptional patient care.
“At our institution, we are always using cutting-edge techniques to treat cardiac patients in the structural heart lab. For this reason, I have a strong interest in examining the anesthesia care for these novel approaches to patient care. I also enjoy mentoring residents in their education, and in various research projects within cardiothoracic anesthesiology” as stated by Dr. Sanders.
Anesthesiology is the medical specialty concerned with the total perioperative care of patients before, during, and after surgery. It encompasses anesthesia, intensive care medicine, critical emergency medicine, and pain medicine. Anesthesiologists have the primary responsibility of monitoring the patient’s vital signs during surgery. In addition to basic measurements such as pulse, blood pressure, and temperature, anesthesiologists also measure the patient’s respiration.
