Dr. Imbriglia holds the esteemed position of Chairman of the Board at the Hand & Shoulder Center, where he is the most senior staff member. 

The Hand & Shoulder Center is a premier organization of orthopedic physicians and therapists dedicated to the prevention and treatment of all disorders of the upper extremity musculoskeletal system. It offers evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up care for conditions affecting the nerves, bones, tendons, joints, skin, and vascular supply of the hands and upper extremities. His impressive medical journey began with his graduation from Drexel University College of Medicine in 1970, followed by the completion of his residency in orthopedic surgery and hand fellowship training at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center in New York City in 1976.

Demonstrating his commitment to excellence, Dr. Imbriglia is board certified in orthopedic surgery and surgery of the hand, earning the title of Diplomate from the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery (ABOS). The ABOS is a reputable organization dedicated to establishing educational and professional standards for orthopedic residents and surgeons, as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopedic surgeons.

From 1983 to 2000, Dr. Imbriglia served as the Director of the Hand Fellowship Program at Allegheny General Hospital. Since 2001, he has held the role of Clinical Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, where he also serves as the Director of the Hand and Upper Extremity Fellowship Program.

In addition to his academic roles, Dr. Imbriglia is a valued member of the medical staff at UPMC Passavant/Cranberry, UPMC Presbyterian/Shadyside, UPMC St. Margaret, and Western PA Surgery Center – Wexford, where he continues to provide exceptional care to patients.

Orthopedic surgery is the branch of surgery concerned with conditions involving the musculoskeletal system. Orthopedic surgeons use both surgical and non-surgical means to treat musculoskeletal trauma, spine diseases, sports injuries, degenerative diseases, infections, tumors, and congenital disorders.

In 1993, Dr. Imbriglia assumed the role of Associate Editor for the Journal of Hand Surgery. Over the years, his outstanding contributions to the medical field have been recognized through numerous accolades. He earned the distinction of being voted one of the “Top Docs in Pittsburgh” in Pittsburgh Magazine for the years 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2008. Additionally, Dr. Imbriglia has been featured multiple times in the prestigious Best Doctors in America publications.

Currently, he plays a vital role on the Board of The Children’s Institute in Pittsburgh. Notably, he previously held the esteemed position of Chairman of the Board from 2007 to 2011, further demonstrating his commitment to serving the community and advancing healthcare.
